Names include Yulianna Avdeveya, First Prize winner of the 2010 Chopin Competition in Warsaw; Kevin Kenner, Second Prize winner of the 1990 Chopin Competition in Warsaw; and Szymom Nehring, winner of the 2017 Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv.
The concerts will be held with strict sanitary measures in place and special seating arrangements in the concert venues.
The festival’s director, Piotr Paleczny, a well-known Polish pianist, has told the media that the event had to be scaled down from original plans due to the pandemic.
As a result of air travel restrictions, there is a notable absence of pianists from Asia, he said.
The International Chopin Piano Festival in Duszniki is the oldest music festival in Poland. Launched in 1946, it is now in its 75th edition.
It commemorates Chopin’s stay in the spa in 1826. The composer was 16 years old when he came to Duszniki, then Bad Reinerz, for treatment and gave two benefit concerts.
The event runs until August 15.
