The gift was handed over as a sign of friendship between the two countries during a ceremony at the end of a summit of the regional Visegrad Group.
The gathering in the southern Polish city of Kraków brought together the prime ministers of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The armour was part of the collection of the National Museum in Budapest. It will now be exhibited at Poland’s historic Wawel Castle in Kraków.
The piece was made as a wedding gift for Poland’s Zygmunt II August (1520-1572) from his bride’s father, Ferdinand I of the Habsburg dynasty, who was to become Holy Roman Emperor.
