Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński won the accolade in the “best solo recording” category for his latest CD Facce d’amore (Faces of Love) as the coveted awards were presented in a virtual ceremony delayed from last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Released on the Erato label, Orliński’s recording features a selection of Baroque operatic arias.
The 31-year-old Pole is among the world’s most sought-after countertenors.

Meanwhile, the Grand Opera Theatre in Poznań, western Poland, received the International Opera Award in the “rediscovered work” category for its production of Paria by Stanisław Moniuszko, the father of Polish national opera. The production was directed by Graham Vick, artistic director of the Birmingham Opera Company.
Finally, costume designer Małgorzata Szcześniak won the award for her work on the opera Anhelli by contemporary Polish composer Dariusz Przybylski.
Founded in 2013, the International Opera Awards are an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world.
