Two performances, a matinee and an evening show, are scheduled for Sunday at the city’s National Forum of Music.

In the production, which is a blend of opera and one-man show,  Malkovich is joined by opera singers Chen Reiss and Susanne Langbein, as well as the Orchester Wiener Akademie and the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra.

The serial killer of the title, portrayed by Malkovich, is Jack Unterweger, an Austrian national who in 1976 was convicted for murder and sentenced to life in prison. While imprisoned, he committed himself to reading and writing.

After the publication of his autobiography, Unterweger became a celebrity.

Convinced that he was a reformed man, the Austrian authorities released him on parole in 1990, but several years later he was charged with nine counts of murder and found guilty.

Soon after being sentenced, Unterweger committed suicide in his prison cell.

Malkovich, best known for his roles in such movies as Dangerous Liaisons, In the Line of Fire and The Portrait of a Lady, visited Wrocław in June during location shooting for the film A Winter’s Journey.

In 2016 he spent some time in the city while working on Valley of the Gods by Polish director Lech Majewski.
