The announcement of Waters’ gigs provoked an outburst of critical comments on social media in Poland, as well as from some public figures and a member of the Kraków City Council, Łukasz Wantuch.

He wrote on Facebook: “I’m going to tell the City Mayor and other council members that these concerts should not take place. It would be a real shame for our city to host someone who is Putin’s unquestioning supporter. Let him sing in Moscow.”

In a recent open letter to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska, Roger Waters urged her and her husband to “seek a different route” in order to “stop the slaughter” in their country.

He also criticised the role of the West in providing weapons for Ukraine.
