Poland controlled the game from the outset to the last ball as the Italians could not find a way to stop Cuban-born Wilfredo Leon, who joined the Polish team in July, and Aleksander Śliwka who both finished the match with 15 points.

The game was mainly one-sided with the Squadra Azzurra proving a worthy opponent only in the final set.

After scoring their fourth win and losing only one game in the tournament – against the US on Friday, Poland is ranked third with 12 points after Brazil and the US.

Poland will play its next game on Wednesday, taking on Russia.

Poland is one of the world's strongest teams. It is the reigning World Champion since 2014 and is ranked fourth in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranking.
