Sixty-eight senators on Thursday supported the designation, none voted against, and one abstained, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The resolution passed by the Polish Senate honours Kowalewski, while also hailing “the achievements of Polish science and engineering."

Kowalewski was a Polish mathematician, cryptologist and linguist as well as a military officer. He is credited with deciphering Soviet military codes during the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1921.
