Mateusz Morawiecki was speaking after meeting leaders from EU countries that form an informal group known as the “Friends of Cohesion,” Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

He said that the 17-member group, during a get-together in Portugal on Saturday, adopted a declaration in which it said a “firm no" to any restrictions to the EU’s cohesion policy and agricultural policies.

Morawiecki also said at the weekend that the European Commission's proposal on the bloc’s new budget for 2021-2027 was “insufficient” and “not ambitious enough,” the PAP news agency reported.

The EU’s cohesion policy aims to support development in poorer member states and help equalise standards of living across the bloc.

Leaders from 17 of the EU’s 27 member states attended the Friends of Cohesion Summit in Portugal on Saturday, the PAP news agency reported.

Those were Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Romania.
