New app connects elderly with volunteers in Poland during epidemic

Thousands of volunteers have registered in a new app which aims help the elderly and those in quarantine during the coronavirus outbreak in Poland.

People who need help can click on the icon of a volunteer near where they live.

Helpers are offering to walk dogs, bring groceries and deliver drugs from a pharmacy.

The IHELPYOU app is free and available in a range of languages, including Czech, Italian and English. It can be found on the ihelpyou.app website.

A total of 547 people have tested positive for the Covid-19 disease in Poland, with five deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials have said.
