The Pengab index, which measures banking sentiment in the country, went up by 2.8 points to "minus 8.4" in December, the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) and market researcher Kantar TNS have said in a joint report.
The improvement in the index reflected a slight increase in customer activity on the Polish market for banking services after a steep slide earlier in the year, according to the report.
Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz, the head of the Polish Bank Association, was quoted as saying that even though the latest reading of the Pengab index was better than in the previous month, "the overall picture of the situation in the banking sector is still a far cry from previous levels" and the bleakest "in the 27-year history of the study."
The study was carried out from December 7 to 18, surveying 100 bank outlets nationwide, state news agency PAP reported.
Earlier this year, banking sentiment in Poland tumbled to its lowest level on record amid the coronavirus pandemic.
