"Poland calls upon all sides in Israel and Palestine to put an end to violence and prevent further loss of life," the foreign ministry in Warsaw said in a tweet on Tuesday.

It condemned "all the actions that led to many civilian casualties."

It also said that the "crisis must be resolved through dialogue, with respect for human rights."

A day earlier, the Polish foreign ministry voiced concern over an escalation of tension in Jerusalem after a series of rocket attacks on the city and other locations within Israel.

In a statement, it urged “all sides to take immediate actions aimed at de-escalating the current situation and to refrain from confrontational rhetoric.”

The latest outbreak of fighting between Israel and armed factions in Hamas Islamist-run Gaza was triggered by clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police at Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Monday, the Reuters news agency reported.

Israel on Tuesday intensified its air strikes on Gaza as rocket barrages hit Israeli towns for a second day in a deepening conflict in which at least 28 people in the Palestinian enclave and two in Israel have been killed, according to Reuters.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country would step up its strikes on Gaza in the face of a surge in rocket attacks.
