Duda started his trip with a visit to the Fukudenkai social welfare center, which was once the home of several hundred Polish orphans—children of Poles who were deported to Russia's remote Siberia region in the 1920s.
The Polish president thanked the Japanese for their "open hearts" and "stressed the importance of Polish-Japanese friendship," according to officials.
On Friday, Duda is expected to meet Japanese Emperor Naruhito. This will be followed by a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Saturday.
During his visit to Japan, Duda will also attend the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the city’s National Stadium.
The Games will last until August 8. Poland is sending a team of more than 210 athletes.
