A multi-stage operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine ended with detentions in Kyiv, the SBU said in a statement on Tuesday, as cited by Polish state news agency PAP.
The detainees are "the head of a department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers and the head of one of the directorates of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine."
According to the SBU, the two officials “provided the enemy with various intelligence information: from the state of defence capabilities to the arrangement of the state border and personal data of Ukrainian law enforcement officers.”
The FSB paid them from USD 2,000 to USD 15,000 per task, the SBU wrote in the statement.
It added that "the amounts depended on the level of secrecy and the importance of the data collected."
The suspects face charges of treason.
On June 8, two Ukrainian citizens from Russian-occupied Crimea, "who betrayed their homeland in 2014 and attacked it in the ranks of the Russian army in February," were sentenced to 13 years in prison along with confiscation of property, the PAP news agency reported.
