Ukraine's police chief Ihor Klymenko said on national television that at least five residents were wounded when a missile hit a building in downtown Kyiv, Poland's PAP news agency reported.

Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenko said the Russians fired a total of 14 rockets at Kyiv and neighbouring areas, in the first major assault on Ukraine's capital since early June, according to the Nexta news service.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said residents were being rescued and evacuated from two buildings.
