Piotr Gliński made the declaration at an international reconstruction conference in Lugano, southern Switzerland, on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland 'ready to play active role' in rebuilding Ukraine

Gliński told the Ukraine Recovery Conference: “Poland is ready to play an active role in the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine, by working with the Ukrainian side on the governmental, regional, local and non-governmental level.”

He added that Poland sought to provide assistance in consultation with the Ukrainian authorities, to make sure funds were allocated “for the most acute and pressing needs.”

Paying tribute to the defenders of Ukraine, Gliński said that "raising the country from ruins" would require "the cooperation of partners from around the world" and "a spirit of unity and solidarity."

Ukraine needs 'help and reconstruction'

“Ukraine needs substantial financial help and reconstruction here and now - and we should be ready to offer it immediately,” Gliński told the gathering in Lugano.

He noted that Poland in May hosted an international donor conference that raised USD 6.5 billion for Ukraine.

Moreover, last month the Polish and Ukrainian governments met for talks in Kyiv, with the postwar rebuilding of Ukraine high on the agenda, Gliński added.

He also stated: “We want to work with Ukraine under the United24Recover programme as well as through new city partnerships for reconstruction.”

Ukraine Recovery Conference

The two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference, which began on Monday, has brought together a number of world leaders and NGOs with the purpose of preparing a roadmap for Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction, news outlets reported.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday said the conference and its results could become the "first big step towards a historic victory for the democratic world."

Tuesday was day 132 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
