The Liberia-flagged Brave Commander freighter has left Ukraine’s port of Yuzhne in a bid to deliver grain to Ethiopia, who have found themselves at risk of famine.
In July, Ukraine and Russia came to an agreement with the UN and Türkiye to restore shipments of food from Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea.
The move aims to address global food insecurity and throw a lifeline to the hunger-stricken African countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.
Since the deal between the parties came into force last month, more than ten ships, mainly carrying animal feed and biofuel, have taken off from Ukrainian ports.
The Brave Commander is transporting the first grain cargo originating from Ukraine since the Russian invasion on February 24.
