The play focuses on a group of women from Ukraine and Poland, probing into what unites and what drives them apart at a time when they all share the suffering brought on by war.

Beata Chyczewska, who plays Zuza, one of the main characters, told the media that this first international co-production was a big challenge for the Białystok company.

She added: “It is a lesson in accepting others as they are. The language barrier apart, there are differences in the way theatres function [in the three countries], but at the end of the day, it all proved a useful exchange of experience.”

The cast also includes Monika Zaborska as well as Ukrainian actresses Anastasia Ievtushenko, Kristina Liuba and Olesia Zhurakivska.

Sets and costumes were designed by Lithuanian artist Arturas Simonis.

The play is performed in Polish and Ukrainian.

On December 12, Invasion is scheduled to be shown at the Town Theatre in Alytus, Lithuania.

Monday is day 285 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
