The event brought together representatives of 21 national radio networks from four continents, which presented 39 works composed within the preceding five years.
Ryterski’s Totentanz was commissioned by the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music and premiered at last year’s festival by Michał Sławecki (countertenor), Adam Kośmieja (piano) and the Warsaw Philharmonic under Vimbayi Kaziboni.
In addition to the exceptional exposure offered by the radio broadcast, the Polish composer will benefit from a co-commission for the Norrlandoperan Symphony Orchestra in Sweden.
Born in 1992, Ryterski studied composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. He developed his skills at various courses including the Sommerkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, Germany.
In the “young composers under 30” category, the work selected as most worthy for worldwide broadcasting was Rocailles de l’après-vie…for large ensemble (2022) by young Dutch composer Thomas van Dun (b. 1995). The composition was presented by Netherlands Public Broadcasting.
A flagship programme of the International Music Council, The International Rostrum of Composers aims at fostering the exchange of performances of contemporary music between broadcasting organisations.
