Number of refugees from Ukraine surpasses 1.5 million: Polish officials

Poland has admitted 1,52 million people escaping the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Polish Border Guard agency reported on Friday.

On Thursday, Polish border officials cleared 87,000 people arriving from Ukraine, the agency wrote on Twitter.

A further 25,400 refugees entered Poland by 7am on Friday morning, the Border Guard added.

Friday is day sixteen of the Russian attack on Ukraine, which began on February 24.

Poland’s Sejm (lower house) on Wednesday approved a plan of assistance to Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion of their country.
