“Russian terrorist attacks — first near the Dorohusk–Yahodyn crossing, then on a passenger train near the Polish border,” he wrote on X on Sunday.
“We treat these events with the utmost seriousness. The situation is being monitored continuously. Russia is an enemy of the free world,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also commented on X regarding the strike on the train, stating: “Putin is escalating.”
A special briefing with ministers and security officials will be held on Sunday in response to incidents near the Polish border.
The meeting was convened at the request of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Government spokesman Adam Szłapka said the briefing is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the headquarters of the Government Security Centre. Participants will include Kierwiński and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, among others.
Military aircraft operations in Polish airspace began around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday and lasted for about five hours. The Armed Forces reported no violations of Polish airspace. During the operations, the Government Security Centre issued alerts to residents of the Lublin and Podkarpackie regions warning of a potential threat.
According to Karolina Gałecka, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, one of the drones hit a petrol station in Yahodyn, near the Polish border, igniting two trucks. Initial information from the Bug River Division of the Border Guard indicated that the drone crashed about 800 meters from the Dorohusk–Yahodyn crossing.
Another drone struck a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw. Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznycia), cited by the Ukrinform agency, reported that no one was injured. PKP Intercity stated on X that the incident occurred on Ukrainian territory before the Polish carrier took over the train and that no Polish citizens were among the passengers. The train was handed over to PKP Intercity with a delay of roughly 370 minutes.
