The report, first published by Hungarian investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi and later confirmed by a source to Polish Radio, said Nawrocki is expected to arrive in the Hungarian capital late in the afternoon or evening.

Earlier in the day, the Polish president is to meet Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok in Przemyśl during Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day celebrations. His talks with Orbán are planned separately and not during a Patriots for Europe rally attended by leaders of far-right parties.

Nawrocki is expected to back Orbán’s re-election bid, as opinion polls indicate a possible defeat for the Hungarian prime minister and his party.

The planned visit drew criticism from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who said on social media the meeting would be a serious mistake and strengthen Russia’s position, and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who noted that Orbán has been blocking further EU sanctions on Russia.
