Poland cuts interest rates by 25 basis points as inflation eases

Poland’s central bank cut its interest rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday, the first change this year, citing easing inflation.

The move by the bank's rate-setting Monetary Policy Council lowers the reference rate to 3.75 percent from 4 percent, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the Lombard rate fell to 4 percent from 4.25 percent and the deposit rate was reduced to 3.25 percent from 3.5 percent, the National Bank of Poland (NBP) said.

Last year, the Monetary Policy Council cut rates six times by a combined 175 basis points.

Inflation stood at 2.2 percent year-on-year in January, according to an estimate by Poland’s statistics office.
