Private broadcaster RMF FM, the first to report on the detention, said the man was found in civilian clothes and unarmed.

However, Russian military documents, including a contract indicating his involvement in military operations against Ukraine, were discovered in his possession.

According to RMF FM, the deserter attempted to use a migration channel organized by the Belarusian authorities to reach destinations in the West, a route commonly frequented by individuals from the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.

Polish state news agency PAP reported that the detainee, who holds military documents, is currently in the custody of the Polish Border Guard, with ongoing administrative procedures to determine whether to seek international protection for him in Poland.
