The change comes amid a stepped-up vaccination campaign. Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have so far been given out in Poland 42 days apart. The gap between AstraZeneca shots has been 82 days.

Meanwhile, Poles who have already received their first dose of a vaccine can attempt to register to shorten the time to the second, if they face an interval of longer than five weeks.

Current supplies of shots mean, however, that this option will not be possible at most vaccination points, said the prime minister's top aide, Michał Dworczyk, who is spearheading the country's inoculation drive.

By Sunday, Poland had injected almost 11.5 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while more than 4.5 million people had been fully inoculated, according to the country's health ministry.
