Poland reports 222 new coronavirus cases, one more death

Poland on Saturday reported 222 new coronavirus infections and one more death related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,886,513 and fatalities to 75,316.

Of the new cases confirmed on Saturdaythe most—32—were in the southern Małopolskie province, which includes the city of Kraków.

The latest death in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak is a person who died directly because of COVID-19.

On Friday, Poland confirmed four new deaths and 212 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with four deaths and 197 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

359 in hospitals, 60,581 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Saturday morning that 359 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 40 of them on ventilators, with a further 60,581 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,656,018 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the weeks ahead as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.
