Of the new cases confirmed on Friday, the most—4,363—were in the central Mazowieckie province, which includes the national capital Warsaw.
The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 292 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 129 others who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.
On Thursday, Poland confirmed 497 deaths and 28,128 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 460 deaths and 28,380 fresh cases a day earlier.
On April 8, the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.
On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.
Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.
19,332 in hospitals, 738,716 quarantined
The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 19,332 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 1,687 of them on ventilators, with a further 738,716 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.
Meanwhile, 2,955,478 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
Amid a rising fourth wave of the pandemic, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski warned this week that the government could move to reintroduce a range of COVID-19 restrictions unless the number of cases decreased over the next few weeks.
Niedzielski told a news conference on Wednesday that the fourth wave was expected to crest at around 30,000 to 35,000 cases next week.
