The new Ukrainian ambassador, Vasyl Zvarych, is a 45-year-old career diplomat.

Upon his arrival in Warsaw with his wife and three children, he wrote on Twitter: ”Welcome Poland, dear Poles! We have arrived fully determined to work 24/7 to strengthen Ukrainian-Polish friendship."

He added: "Together with Poland we are stronger and together we shall surely win. Thank you for your solidarity with and support for Ukraine.”

A graduate of the National University in Lviv, Zvarych previously worked as a deputy director at the Department of Information Policy of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also a member of the diplomatic staff at the Ukrainian embassies in Turkey and the United States.

He takes the helm in Warsaw from Deshchytsia, who had served in the post since 2014.
