This was within a day after Health Minister Adam Niedzielski announced that the booster would become available for the 60+ age group, and everyone aged over 12 with impaired immunity.

Altogether, 4.5 million on-line certificates have been issued enabling people to receive the booster, informed health authorities.

Until now, the second booster dose was available to over-80s.

In recent days, Poland has been seeing a spike in new Covid-19 infections or reinfections. Tests confirmed 3,493 Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours. Of these 551 were reinfections. 12 deaths related to Covid-19 were reported.

The peak of the summer wave of Covid-19 is expected in mid-August when the number of daily cases is forecasted to reach 8-10 thousand daily.

So far health authorities have not introduced any restrictions, although masks are now "recommended" on public transport.
