Andrzej Duda met with Polish airmen at the Ämari military base on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The president was accompanied by First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda and his Estonian counterpart Alar Karis.

Poland's first couple extended festive wishes to the Polish pilots, while Duda and Karis also held talks on bilateral and international issues, according to officials.

The two presidents discussed the European Council's decision last week to start accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova, on national security issues and the situation on Poland's and Estonia's borders with Belarus, reporters were told.

Duda thanked the Polish airmen for their "allied solidarity and service," which he said was "exceptionally important" for Poland's security amid Russia's continuing invasion of Ukraine and "the ongoing hybrid attacks on the eastern border."

The president and first lady wished the Polish pilots a merry and peaceful Christmas.

The Polish contingent arrived in Estonia earlier this month as part of NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission designed to protect the skies over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Tuesday is day 664 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
