Polish government ministers are set to gather for a special meeting with President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday to discuss a slew of big-ticket investment projects such as a planned hub airport near Warsaw, the country's nuclear power programme and efforts to modernize the army.

The gathering, known as the Cabinet Council, is due to begin at the presidential palace in Warsaw at 1 p.m., public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The president is expected to hold a media briefing after the talks, his office said.

Duda said earlier this month that the meeting would focus on "steps that need to be taken to address the challenges we encounter in the country's development."

He added: "We will have the opportunity to convene and discuss in a composed manner how the government views these investment initiatives, how it intends to carry them out, what steps have already been taken and what kind of action we can expect to see in the future."

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has confirmed that he and his Cabinet ministers will attend the meeting, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
