"The last few hours have been a very difficult time for all of us," Kosiniak-Kamysz said in a post on the X social media platform.

"We say goodbye to two soldiers from the 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade who died as a result of injuries they suffered in an accident on a training ground," he added.

"As a sign of mourning, national flags will be lowered to half-mast in all military units," he announced.

On Tuesday morning, a tracked vehicle ran over two soldiers during exercises at a training ground in Drawsko Pomorskie in the northwest of the country, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

One of the soldiers died on Tuesday, and the other succumbed on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
