Speaking after a meeting with his German and French counterparts on Tuesday, Poland’s infrastructure minister Dariusz Klimczak said the countries aim to establish direct rail links between Warsaw, Berlin and Paris and improve the cross-border network.

The declaration, signed within the Weimar Triangle framework, emphasises the role of conventional and high-speed rail in integrating markets and strengthening links between countries.

The parties pledged to boost the competitiveness of rail transport in the EU, continue regular coordination at EU level and support funding for transport development across the bloc.

According to Klimczak, the ministers discussed transport resilience in the context of security and crisis response, including military mobility and dual-use infrastructure.

They agreed that interoperable, cross-border connections remain a priority for both civilian and defence needs.

During a joint press conference, French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said the three countries"“shape the EU’s ability to ensure resilient and efficient mobility in crisis situations", while his German counterpart, Patrick Schnieder, added that the meeting laid "the foundations for coordinated cross-border transport development".

The talks also covered road and maritime links.

Meanwhile, rail operators – Poland's PKP, Germany's Deutsche Bahn and France's SNCF – signed a parallel agreement to deepen cooperation, including improving cross-border services and supporting high-speed rail, notably the Warsaw–Berlin–Paris corridor.

The document also provides for strengthening rail freight and continuing the Europe’s Rail partnership.

The Polish infrastructure ministry said the meeting was the first ever gathering of transport ministers from the Weimar Triangle countries.
