The count was taking place both on the Polish side of the mountains and across the border on the Slovak side.
The results will be announced next week, said Tomasz Zwijacz-Kozica from the Tatra National Park.
"In recent years we have observed that the number of chamois in the Tatras remains high. There are over a thousand of them, " Zwijacz-Kozica said.
The count is conducted twice a year - in the summer and in the autumn.
It has been held on both sides of the Tatra mountains since 1957, and is the oldest such survey of fauna conducted by two countries simultaneously, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
