Poland to set up a hotline for refugees from Ukraine

Poland’s Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will establish a special hotline in Ukrainian for refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it was announced on Thursday.

The agency’s chairperson Getruda Uścińska unveiled the news in a statement shared with the state PAP news agency.

She added that ZUS offices would hire translators of Ukrainian and publish materials in this language.

“We know that the refugees are mainly women and children, and so of key importance will be the family-policy measures made available to Ukrainian citizens,” the official emphasised.

Poland’s Sejm (lower house) on Wednesday approved a plan of assistance to Ukrainians who escape the Russian invasion of their country.

Poland on Thursday reported it had accepted 1,43 million people fleeing the Russian assault on Ukraine.

Thursday is day fifteen of the Russian invasion, which began on February 24.
