Andrzej Duda hosted Polish diplomats at the presidential palace in Warsaw on Thursday, state news agency PAP reported.

In his address to mark Foreign Service Day, the president thanked Poland's diplomats for their "loyal and steadfast service to Poland" and "a big contribution to building Poland's potential internationally."

Duda said he was grateful to diplomats for "pursuing the country's interests and forging a positive image for our country abroad."

Duda also thanked officials involved in ensuring the evacuation of Poles from the Gaza Strip, amid the Israel-Hamas war.

He declared that "the overriding goal for Polish diplomacy in the coming year" would be to "maintain and strengthen" Poland's position on the international stage.

The president stated that his unwavering priority was to ensure and enhance Poland's security amid Russia's ongoing war on Ukraine.

Duda also said that "a key priority is to keep strengthening Poland's strategic partnership with the United States, our main ally."

Polish diplomats 'rose to the challenge': FM

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said that Poland's diplomatic corps faced two main challenges this year, helping organise the October 15 parliamentary election and referendum for Poles based abroad, and helping with the ongoing evacuation of compatriots from war-torn Gaza.

Rau said that the absentee ballot was "a great success" and that Polish consular officials also "rose to the challenge" of helping Polish citizens get out of war-torn Israel, the PAP news agency reported.
