During a press conference with EU leaders in Warsaw, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola emphasized that Poland could lead the European Union over the next six months, particularly in light of the security challenges the Union is facing.

Metsola also noted that "the time for geopolitical outsourcing is over," and the EU must take responsibility for its own security.

She pointed out that defense spending in Russia is far higher than in the EU, highlighting the need for investments in defense matters.

Prime Minister Tusk acknowledged that Poland faces numerous challenges, not only due to the war in Ukraine but also the destabilization surrounding Europe, political crises within the EU, and the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus (scheduled for January 26, 2025).

„Europe still has a chance to be the safest, most stable place on Earth. There’s much work to be done, including deep adjustments to the ways we have been doing things so far. But I firmly believe that we can find common ground when necessary” - stated the head of Polish government.

Under Poland's presidency, key priorities will include security, energy, the protection of citizens, and fair competition within the EU.

Tusk also highlighted that an increasing number of EU countries agree with Poland on issues related to border defense and migration control.
