Some 25,000 participants from almost 200 countries were expected to attend the climate summit in the Spanish capital to discuss ways of reducing global warming, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Poland’s Climate Minister Michał Kurtyka was also scheduled to take part in the conference, which runs from Monday until December 13.

Last December thousands of decision makers from around the world attended the COP24 climate summit in the southern Polish city of Katowice.

Poland’s Kurtyka presided over that event.

Crowds of young Poles on Friday joined a global wave of protests to demand action to stop climate change.
