Several hundred protesters gathered in front of the US embassy in Warsaw on Saturday to protest against racism and police brutality, following the killing of George Floyd, an African American who died in police custody in Minneapolis last week, Poland’s PAP news agency has reported.

The protest was organized by the „United Against Racism” organization, with participants chanting „end racism and violence”, and holding banners reading „Black Lives Matter”, „no freedom till we’re equal”, and „racism must end now”.

One of the protesters was quoted by PAP as saying: "we have little influence on the situation in the US, but we are trying to express our solidarity."

"Discrimination against African-Americans has been swept under the carpet by US politicians for several decades," he added.

The protest in Warsaw was peaceful, and police did not report any incidents, the agency said.

George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American, died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25.

A video released after his death showed a police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck as the detained man repeatedly pleaded for air saying he could not breathe.

His death has inspired protests in cities around the world.
