Przemysław Żurawski vel Grajewski said that finishing the pipeline, which is almost complete, would be “a step towards war.”
Żurawski vel Grajewski, as cited by Poland’s niezalezna.pl website, added: “The construction of Nord Stream 2 with a capacity of 55 billion cubic metres will allow the transmission of gas to Germany without transit through Ukraine, and thus [allow] an attack on Ukraine without the loss of revenues from the sale [of gas] to Germany and other smaller customers.”
He added: “It lowers the strategic costs of a new Russian act of aggression, and so is a step towards war, for which Germany would also be jointly responsible.”
He said that Germany, to which Russia aims to pipe gas via Nord Steam 2, was sending Moscow an “ominous” message: "The path is clear - you can strike.”
Polish deputies on Tuesday passed a motion calling on EU and NATO countries to take action to stop the construction of the pipeline.
The motion warns that the gas link would open the way for Russia to mount an armed attack on Ukraine.
Poland has strongly criticized the pipeline project amid concerns that it will make the European Union more dependent on Russian gas.
