Polish PM talks aid for Ukraine with top EU official

Poland’s prime minister on Thursday met with the deputy head of the European Commission to discuss support for war-affected Ukraine and fresh sanctions against Russia.

Mateusz Morawiecki and Dubravka Šuica talked about assistance for Ukraine, as well as humanitarian aid for people fleeing the Russian invasion of Poland’s eastern neighbour, the state PAP news agency reported.

The pair also discussed tougher measures against Moscow in retaliation for its attack on Ukraine, officials told reporters.

Šuica is the vice president of the EC for democracy and demography.

The PM’s agenda on Thursday also includes meetings with the US Vice President Kamala Harris and the Canadian head of government Justin Trudeau, before a trip to Paris for the European Council summit.

Poland on Thursday reported it had accepted 1,43 million people escaping the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Thursday is day fifteen of the Russian assault, which began on February 24.
