Addressing the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Truss warned against efforts to "appease" Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

“We must not allow a prolonged and increasingly painful conflict to develop in Ukraine,” Truss said, as cited by Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, which cites the UK’s Foreign Office.

In the speech, Truss also said that the West must learn lessons from the Russian invasion of Georgia, the annexation of Crimea and the current situation in Donbass.

“We must be relentless in ensuring Ukraine prevails through military aid and sanctions. We can’t take our foot off the accelerator now,” she added.

Bosnia and Herzegovina condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the United Nations, but failed to agree on sanctions because of opposition from Serb officials, the Associated Press news agency reported.

According to AP, fears of destabilization have mounted in Bosnia in recent months as pro-Russia Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik increased his divisive rhetoric.

Yesterday, Italy, Hungary and Cyprus urged the European Union to call for a ceasefire in Ukraine and peace talks with Russia.
