Poland's Andrzej Duda and the UN's António Guterres held talks on the sidelines of the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday night.

The two talked about the latest developments in Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, according to Polish officials.

Duda and Guterres also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, amid the Israel-Hamas war, reporters were told.

Another main topic was the role of the UN's Polish military contingent, deployed in Lebanon.

Polish troops provide medical, logistical and engineering support for UN forces stationed in the south of the country, public broadcaster Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl reported.

The meeting with the UN chief wrapped up the Polish president's Wednesday programme at Davos, which also included talks with the Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Vĕra Jourova, and meetings with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

Duda also took part in panel discussions on Defending Europe’s United Front and The Imperatives and Challenges of European Connectivity in Global Turbulent Times, according to officials.

On Thursday, the Polish president took part in the traditional Ukrainian Breakfast event, and was also scheduled to meet with Swiss counterpart Viola Amherd and participate in a debate on NATO and the Future of Deterrence and Defense on Europe’s Eastern Front.

The Polish president is taking part in the 2024 World Economic Forum until Thursday; guests also include Poland's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

The event runs until Friday.

Thursday is day 694 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
