Poland's Zbigniew Rau and Saudi Arabia's top diplomat Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed possibilities for intensifying economic and military relations when they met for talks in Warsaw on Wednesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Saudi Arabia has been Poland’s most important trading partner in the Middle East for more than 10 years, the Polish foreign ministry said in a Twitter post.

Rau said after meeting his Saudi counterpart that last year the value of trade between the two countries was estimated at more than USD 2.5 billion.

His Saudi counterpart, meanwhile, was quoted as saying that his visit was a reconnaissance trip amid efforts to broaden two-way business and trade relations.

The two politicians also discussed "cooperation in international forums and the situation in the Middle East,” according to the Polish foreign ministry.

This year marks 25 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, the IAR news agency reported.
