Speaking to Polish Radio on Saturday, Marcin Przydacz said he hoped that security in the region would not deteriorate. "Let's be under no illusions that such issues are decided by Warsaw itself. It is mainly Washington's decision that Poland will be part of a broader structure,” Przydacz added.
“I sincerely hope for no regress in this respect," Przydacz told Polish Radio.
He referred to US outlet NBC News which, citing several sources, reported on Friday that the US administration was ready to propose, during next week’s talks with Russia, to discuss mutual scaling back of forces in Central and Eastern Europe, including in Poland and Kaliningrad Oblast.
The United States has dismissed the NBC reports with Department Spokesperson Ned Price writing Saturday on Twitter: "In fact, we have been clear with Russia, publicly and privately, that should Russia further invade Ukraine we would reinforce our NATO partners on the eastern flank, to whom we have sacred obligation as allies.”
However, an unnamed senior US administration official told reporters on a White House-organised conference call on Saturday that the US was willing to discuss certain topics including missile deployments in Ukraine and limits on training exercises in Eastern Europe, the Deutsche Welle news outlet wrote on Saturday.
