During the two-day event, some 900 participants are discussing ways to foster socio-economic and scientific cooperation between local governments from Central and Eastern European countries.
Those taking part represent the 12 countries of the Three Seas Initiative; strategic partners (European Union, the United States of America and Germany), as well as partner regions from Eastern Europe.
Discussions are focusing particularly on the situation in war-torn Ukraine and the energy security of the region. The event also prepares the ground for the Three Seas Summit to be held in Riga, Latvia, later this month.
The Three Seas Initiative
The Three Seas Initiative brings together European Union countries situated between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas: Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
It seeks to deepen political, economic, energy and infrastructure ties between its members.
Radio Poland’s Danuta Isler spoke about the importance of the Three Seas Local Government Congress to Izabela Szczęsna-Kowalczyk, from the Marshal’s Office of the Lublin region.
