Employment stable, wages up in Polish firms y/y in August: stats office

Employment in Polish companies held steady in August on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in August increased by 11.9 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,368.97 (EUR 1,590, USD 1,700), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg this month estimated that Poland's unemployment rate stayed flat at 5 percent in August, unchanged from July.

There were around 783,700 people without jobs across the nation at the end of August, down by 1,300 from a month earlier, according to the government.
