The price cut was unveiled by State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin on Monday, the wgospodarce.pl website reported.
It means that a household’s total electricity bill for 2023 will be reduced by some PLN 120 (EUR 26), according to the government.
Sasin wrote on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter: "Due to the Senate blocking a bill that assumed a 5% reduction in electricity prices, the government decided to introduce a solution in which energy sellers would grant households a discount of over PLN 120 (EUR 26).”
In November 2022, Polish President Andrzej Duda approved a government measure to cap the prices of electricity as part of efforts to protect households, local governments and businesses from rising energy costs driven by Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Tuesday is day 566 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
