The reading was worse than expected by analysts, who had forecast industrial production to decrease 1.7 percent last month, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
In month-on-month terms, Polish industrial production in August was 1 percent higher than in July, the Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Meanwhile, the country's seasonally-adjusted industrial production fell by 1.8 percent in year-on-year terms in August, while decreasing 0.6 percent month on month, the state-run statistics office reported.
According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.7 percent in Poland in July.
