Speaking to private broadcaster RMF FM while in Washington for IMF meetings, Domański said the zloty will remain Poland’s currency.
“We are happy to have our own currency,” he said, adding that in periods of global economic turbulence, the zloty “also has a cushioning function for the Polish economy.”
Domański said Poland was being cited in Washington as a model, attributing that to what he called the country’s “huge economic success.” He said Poland is “a very clear example that economic transformation can deliver excellent results.”
“We are currently the world’s twentieth-largest economy, and in GDP per capita terms adjusted for price levels, this year we will overtake Japan — and that makes a huge impression here,” he told RMF FM.
Turning to international standing, Domański said Poland’s aspirations to join the G20 are “fully justified,” and that Warsaw senses support from the United States. He recalled that President Donald Trump invited President Nawrocki to the leaders’ summit in Miami.
“Given that we have had thirty-five years of uninterrupted economic growth and are the twentieth-largest economy in the world, ahead of, among others, Switzerland, our aspirations to join the G20 are entirely justified,” he said.
