PGE Group and Ørsted announced the deals with the suppliers Navantia-Windar and Orient Cable on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Under the contracts, Spain's Navantia-Windar consortium will provide stilts for the wind turbines, the largest of which are set to exceed 100 metres in height, and weigh over 2,000 tonnes, according to officials.

Meanwhile, China’s state-run Shanghai-listed Orient Cable (NBO) company committed to supplying some 170 kilometres of 66 kV subsea array cables that will link up the turbines with offshore electrical substations, the PAP news agency reported.

2.5 GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm to be ready by end of 2029

In April, PGE and Ørsted signed the first major component contract of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project, with wind-turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa, the OffshoreWind.biz website reported.

In June, the PGE and Ørsted joint venture took the next step by contracting the offshore substations, the PAP news agency reported.

The April, June and July contracts concern a part of the planned Baltica wind farm, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2, slated for completion by the end of 2027, according to officials.

The other part, the 1 GW Baltica 3, is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2029, OffshoreWind.biz reported.

Together the two parts will make up the 2.5 GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, the PAP news agency reported.

PGE Group CEO Wojciech Dąbrowski said in a statement: “Securing components for Baltica 2 will allow us to continue with next phases of the project development. Our planned actions consistently bring us closer to achieving the strategic goal of the PGE Group, which is developing 2.5 GW in offshore wind capacity by 2030.”

Agata Staniewska, managing director for Ørsted Offshore Poland, said: "Together with PGE, we’re committed to delivering offshore wind energy to Poland at large scale. By signing another two strategic component contracts for Baltica 2, we’re step by step moving forward with this landmark project that will be pioneering offshore wind in Poland.”

Both companies said the 2.5 GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm would “make a significant contribution to Poland’s energy transition, generating enough green electricity to power about 4 million Polish homes.”

PGE Group is Poland’s largest energy company, as well as the number one provider of electricity and heat, supplying over 5 million customers, the PAP news agency reported.

PGE Group produces more than 40 percent of the country's electricity and holds 7.7 percent of the Polish renewables market, according to officials.

The Denmark-based green energy company Ørsted carries out operations in the United States, Asia and Europe, and its key markets include Poland, where it employs some 300 people out of a total workforce of over 6,600, the PAP news agency reported.

Ørsted builds and operates offshore and onshore wind farms, as well as solar farms, among other products and services, and reported sales of EUR 10.4 billion in 2021.
